Severe Weather Information

Dear Parents & Carers,

I’d like to start by saying a big thank you to you for your patience during this unpredictable weather. Making the decision to remain open or to close the school is not an easy one. We are mindful that every day a child misses school is a day of education lost, but we need to weigh this up with the risks involved, ensuring the safety of our pupils and staff at all times. We are continually assessing the risk and checking on the ever changing weather forecast in order to make informed and up to date decisions. We try to only close the school in extreme cases, for example if the grounds and pathways are unsafe, if we have no heating or water due to frozen pipes or if we do not have enough staff to cover classes. We sometimes adapt arrangements at end of school day to ensure everyone can leave safely.

We are aware that our surrounding roads and pavements have not been re-gritted and some are quite dangerous at present. The Met Office is currently forecasting heavy snow and ice for this afternoon and tomorrow. With this in mind, we have taken the decision to close the school to pupils on Friday 2nd March.

We will reschedule World Book Day, Bedtime Story Evening & our E-Safety Evening to dates between now and the end of term. The Images Art Exhibition will now go ahead on Thursday 15th March.

In order to ensure the safety of all children and families, the following collection arrangements have been put in place for this afternoon (Thursday 1st March):

Nursery & Reception: 2.00pm from classrooms as usual

Year 1: 2.00pm from Year 1 Yellow outside door

Year 2: 2.20pm from the Main School Door

Year 3 & 4: 2.30pm from Main School Door

Year 5 & 6: 2.45pm from Main School Door

As soon as you have collected your child/ren, please make room for other parents by leaving the premises making space at the main door. If you have children in more than one class, you will be able to collect all of your children from your youngest child’s classroom.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, however this is the safest way to dismiss children as the main school playground in not safe for large volumes of traffic. If you are unable to collect your child at the earlier time, please rest assured they will be supervised until normal pick up times. All after school clubs INCLUDING ACE are cancelled for today. Please take care on surrounding footpaths.

This week’s newsletter will be issued on Monday when we hope to be back to normal! Thank you for your cooperation and continued support.
