Year 5 Reading

Reading

We expose the children to range of books and authors to help develop children’s love for reading. Children are fully immersed in our topic-based curriculum through a different themed book each half term. The children visit the school library once a week, learning how to use the resource and choosing a book of their choice to take home. We have a selection of books, some based on the topics covered in lessons, and some just of the children’s choice, in our book areas in the classroom.

Children are encouraged to read daily in school and at home and can choose books from the class library, school library or from their homes. They are actively encouraged to read a range of fiction and non-fictions books and explore the wonders of different authors. Children are encouraged to record the books they have read in their reading record.  Some children are working on the school reading scheme, books will come home for your child to read to develop their confidence and fluency (recognising words without saying the sounds and reading the words). Once your child can read fluently, they will be allowed to select a book of their choice.  Reading comprehension activities are set to consolidate understanding and take place most weeks within English lessons.

The link below has a range of books which are suitable for children in Year 5.
